"Certain journalists use “dominionist” the way some folks on Fox News use the word “sharia.” Its strangeness scares people. Without history or context, the word creates a siege mentality in which“we” need to guard against “them.”"
"There is no “school of thought” known as “dominionism.” The term was coined in the 1980s by writer Sara Diamond"
( Diamond wrote a piece attacking a prominent evangelical intellectual)
"and is never used outside liberal blogs and websites. No reputable scholars use the term for it is a meaningless neologism that Diamond concocted for her dissertation."
A public relations expert who works with Christian groups in the south says that you would be hard pressed to find more than one in a thousand Christians who even know what "dominionism" is.
Appx 75% of Americans self identify as Christians. It is estimated that 15% of Americans idetify as "evangelicals" , which means that evangelicals comprise 20% of all Christians , in other words, 80% of all Christians are not evangelicals (let alone members of the "religious right" that might possibly , maybe, potentially, theoreticially be interested in dominionism, should such a doctrine exist.)
The sad truth is that the political left is using this diminutive angle in order to drum up fear of conservative politicians such as Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry.
One of the ongoing themes of modern day liberals is that the other side are 'hypocrites'. Hardly a discussion can go by without a liberal calling conservatives a hypocrite about something or other. Seriously, it happens every day on Newsvine.
Not surprisingly, they miss their own. The left has raised the issue of the misapplication of concern , by some, mainly on the right, that Sharia law might be infiltrated into America by Muslim immigrants. Since we have no Sharia law in America and none on the horizon it would seem, the liberals are able to make a persuasive point.
Then they go and behave like flaming, uh, hypocrites , by drumbeating hysterical reaction to a few scattered quotes from certain Republican politicians in order to create the impression that dominionism , a word that does not appear in the dictionary,
