President Obama was humiliated today.
It didn't seem that way when he put the far right on the run this morning by releasing his 'long form' birth certificate and demolishing the very basis of their claims about his birthplace. It much more seemed like the President had outfoxed and out gamed his political opponents and other assorted enemies, and had indeed actually humiliated them, mainly Donald Trump , who was mercilessly harrased by reporters at his press conference in which he attempted to gloat over his 'victory' in the birth certificate' controversy.
But as the day wore on the 'true meaning' of the days events was explained to us all by liberals online and in the media. Obama had been humilated as a black man because he had been forced to produce identity papers to a white man.
"It calls upon ancient racial fears."
All day and evening long the hosts on MSNBC have promoted near hysteria , not about the way Obama coolly drew the birthers into his trap, but over the sadness of the humiliation of the first black President.
Ed Schultz had the gall to ask the racialist black scholar Michael Eric Dyson "will America ever recover from this"? (Obama's humiliation.)
Dyson preceded to go into a rant about how Obama had been brought to the "auction block" and required to "prove his humanity" to the Republican masters.
Cenk Uygar, Chris Matthews, Lawrence O'Donnell all blew a gasket denouncing the RACISM of the Republican party. O'Donnell literally harrassed a birther guest for 5 minutes, screaming at her trying to get her to apologize to Barack Obama on air. When she refused he cut her off the show.
Matthews similarly refused to let his tea party guests speak unless they agreed to mouth the words of apology Matthews insisted they repeat.
"Aside from being one of the most idiotic moments in American political history, this marks a level of personal humiliation no previous president has ever been asked to endure. Other presidents have been the target of crazy conspiracy theories, sure, but few have been as self-evidently absurd as birtherism. None has been so clearly rooted in anxieties about the president’s racial identity, because no previous American president has been black."
Liberal blogger Adam Serwer
And we thought it was about Donald Trump's ego and self-promotion. What fools we were. It is all about America wanting to humiliate a famous black man.
The Chickens Are Coming Home To Roost
Remember that famous phrase out of the American history book?
Let me suggest that , the 'birther' issue, as idiotic as it is, and I will even grant that there are many racists in the birther 'movement', let me suggest that this theme is, in part, the fruit of Rev Wright and Barack Obama's chickens coming home to roost. Why oh why, we wail now, is this black man being persecuted with the theme that he is "un American"? Duh, could it possibly be because he was a member for 17 years of a racist church, led by an openly anti-American pastor? Ya think? And moreso, because in 2008 the media refused to investigate or explain TUCC , and Obama WAS NEVER asked any hard questions about his membership in that church?
There are people on the right, exampled by Monica Crowley on O'Reilly tonight, who say that Obama was never put through a 'vetting' process during the 2008 election season because the national media was enamored with the concept of the 'historic' nature of his candidacy. These people believe Obama is questioned now because he was never adequately questioned 3 years ago. Because the media didn't want to risk uncovering anything that might damage Obama's chances to achieve the historic Presidency, he was given kid glove treatment at the time.
Bill O'Reilly tonight had a guest on from the NAACP. He asked the man if he thought it was racist for Donald Trump to imply that President Obama plays basketball too much. "Oh, of course" the man said, and then went into a little speech about the historic stereotyping of blacks. Then O'Reilly said "what if someone black implied that a white President was golfing too much, would that be racist too?" And the NAACP gentleman was taken back for a second before he said no, it was not the same.
Until they are seen as the same we are not going to solve racial problems.
And MSNBC is shamelessly trying to turn this into a solely racial issue.
