Next weekend the cable channel AMC is going to show 'Lonesome Dove' over the two nights. It reminded me that many younger people have probably not seen what may be the best thing ever created for television. I would personally put it very near the top, with in my mind only Band Of Brothers beating it out. Lonesome Dove, had it been a theatrical movie instead of a television show, would be , imo, regarded as one of the very few greatest westerns ever made. In fact I can't think of a better one. Robert Duvall gives an Oscar level performance as the philosophical old Texas Ranger, Gus McRae, and Tommy Lee Jones is his equal as the practical and stern Capt. Call. The sweep of the story is magnificent, the minor characters are memorable, the script is brilliant and the production values are outstanding. Check out Lonesome Dove.
Now, your opinions as to the greatest program ever created for television?
